Them’s big sheep!
I travelled to Caerwys (“fortified place”) in Denbigshire for a meeting of the Steering Committee of the North Wales Pilgrim Way-a dedicated band of people committed to bringing this new walk to fruition. In a meadow near to the Church I came across these creatures, white and fluffy like huge sheep. As soon as they put their heads up they were revealed as Llamas, South American camelids known for their fine wool. They can live up to 30 years old. They are also widely used as pack carrying animals in Peru. Is somebody in these parts planning to carry walker’s packs?
